The 2021 Outlander PHEV - An SUV with a Renewed Focus

Mitsubishi has gone all-in with its renewed focus on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs); Making the most significant change for 2021 is having the Outlander PHEV as the only available option with the Outlander gets a new redesigned 2022 version.

This focus has also resulted in some changes to the interior, losing the third row to accommodate large battery packs.

However, Mitsubishi was one of the first to offer PHEV technology, putting it ahead of new competitors such as the RAV4 Prime and Ford Escape Hybrid.

2021 PHEV Changes

Even though Mitsubishi is completely redesigning the Outlander, they still made significant changes to the 2021 PHEV model.

Available for the 2021 PHEV is a larger battery pack, giving a more powerful 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine. These additions increase the all-electric driving range to 39 km and the PHEV's top speed to 134 km/h during all-electric operation. In addition, with the bigger rear-mounted electric motor, the Outlander PHEV's combined horsepower increases to 221.

Design, Trim Levels, and Safety

As one of the earliest PHEVs, the Mitsubishi Outlander was built to stand out from the crowd in all aspects. The bold exterior exudes confidence with stylish body lines and available LED headlamps.

Inside, the Outlander offers versatility with spacious seating for five passengers and ample cargo space up to 1,886 litres.
